Mental Health Clinical Director

Dr. Michael J. Doria, MPH, MA

Director of Clinical Services - Mental Health

Dr. Michael J. Doria is a licensed mental health professional, retired military officer, and nationally recognized leader in trauma-informed care, with over 27 years of specialized experience spanning the military, healthcare, and corporate sectors. Following a highly distinguished military career, Dr. Doria now serves as Clinical Director of Mental Health Services and Founder of Doria Therapeutic Group, PLLC, where he leads a multidisciplinary team providing evidence-based, neuropsychologically integrated mental health care across five states.

A defining achievement of Dr. Doria’s military service was his historic appointment as the first and only clinical neuropsychologist in the United States Coast Guard (USCG). In this pioneering role, he developed and led the Coast Guard’s Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Programs, directly shaping national standards of care for service members affected by operational stress, combat trauma, and deployment-related neurocognitive injuries. His work helped embed behavioral health services into operational readiness and long-term recovery efforts across the USCG.

Broadening his impact across military branches, Dr. Doria was instrumental in the development and management of the Military Acute Concussion Evaluation (MACE) Program for the entire U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. He led the creation and implementation of this standardized clinical tool designed to rapidly assess, screen, and monitor cognitive functioning following concussion and mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Through his leadership, the MACE program became a cornerstone of military neuropsychological care, improving early detection and treatment for thousands of sailors and Marines and significantly enhancing TBI management and recovery outcomes across the naval services.

He has served in response to major national emergencies such as Hurricane Katrina, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and mass fatality incidents requiring immediate behavioral health support for survivors, responders, and medical personnel.
During the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic (March–June 2020), Dr. Doria was recalled to active duty with the New York Guard and assigned to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) in New York City. As the sole behavioral health provider for military and emergency teams, he provided trauma counseling, crisis debriefings, and emotional support during one of the nation’s largest mass fatality operations, following over 32,000 COVID-19-related deaths statewide, including more than 21,000 in New York City alone. For his extraordinary contributions under these challenging conditions, he received the New York State Medal for Meritorious Service and the U.S. COVID-19 Pandemic Civilian Service Medal from the Department of Health and Human Services.
